The Year 4 ROBOTS Strut their Stuff!

The Giant Robot Collagraphs are finished...a mighty task to co-ordinate but very satisfying now it is all complete. 4K left the art-room saying 'best lesson ever' so they are obviously happy with the finished works. They look amazing! Mrs Hayer will now be working hard to get them up around school.

We have all been involved in a lengthy process to complete these from observational drawings, to drafting outlines, creating Robot body part plans (with observed details inside), then came the collagraph plate making, next came the inking up and printing...finally we worked together in teams to cut out our printed body parts and place them together to make our Giant Robot! Robots Rock!!!!

First we worked together to place our Robot body parts how we wanted them for the final result.

And here we are delighted with the end result!

Year 6 - Ancient Greece work in 2D

There is some lovely work emerging by Year 6 at present. We have collected ideas and tested materials and approaches in our sketchbooks linked to the theme of Ancient Greece. Pupils have used past experiences to justify choices and have not been overly directed by the teacher. The project is coming to an end and I am looking forward to seeing a fantastic display of the finished large scale works.

First the sketchbooks, created by individual pupils ...

Then we have revisited ideas with partner and tackled imagery on a large scale ...

Detail

Next we have developed smaller scale artworks on to newspaper backgrounds...these will ultimately be cut out and added in to the large scale works to create variety and add interest in to the backgrounds. Before doing this we have reflected on our learning...

One of the smaller newspaper works (above) , this will be cut out and placed in a larger background...the image below depicts pieces that have been developed but not cut out, just laid over a larger scale piece. The final works will be photographed and displayed - I will share a blog about them soon.

Pet Portraits in 3D - By Year 2

A few years ago artist Samantha Bryan  http://samanthabryan.co.uk/ undertook a relief Pet Portrait project with our Nursery children and their parents. This got me thinking about her 3D versions using similar construction methods Sam has shown us in the past. I have related these to a Pets theme in our current Year 2. So, here we are! First we have created designs in our sketchbooks and experimented with cutting the fabrics suited to our intentions.

These are too cute!

Then we have begun to build our pet frame using foam, ploystyrene and wire for forming the shape. A layer of tissue paper skin is used to coat the frame.

They already have great character just with the skin...however take a look at our finished models below. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them....
Next we will be writing Pet Poetry using the childrens own models as a stimulus for writing. I cant wait!

I love this bunny...hopping merrily. Had to take a few of this one so you could see the lovely movement!

Such pleading eyes! Good job they are not rescue animals I would have a house full!
Poetry to follow in a further blog in a few weeks time...
